From renovations and redevelopments to upgrades and renewals, there are so many positive developments currently taking place across Respect, with even more exciting projects planned for the second half of 2024.

Here is a look at two upgrades focused on improving the care we offer residents and their families: one, a major piece of ongoing work; and the other, an important project recently completed.

St Ann’s in Hobart, Tasmania

In early Autumn, we excitedly kicked off our significant renovation of St Ann’s, the oldest home in our network of aged care communities.

Last year, the beloved and historic home celebrated a century of dedicated service and care for local families in Hobart and, through its current redevelopment, Respect wants to ensure this great legacy can continue for another 100 memorable years.

The massive upgrade will see St Ann’s facilities and services undergo crucial updates to ensure all residents now and in the future can continue to enjoy a great quality of life in a modern and contemporary environment of high-level care and support.

Ongoing throughout the coming months, renovation works will expand the home’s southern end (an addition of 12 new beds) as well as update the home’s lower ground floor. This will consist of key improvements to several shared living spaces, and general refurbishments to modernise the look and feel of our home (including the construction of a new dining room and on-site laundry, as well as an upgraded staff room and nurses’ station).

Above is a snapshot of the level of activity taking place at the home during Stage 1 of its redevelopment. As you can see, it has involved a lot of heavy construction work to reconstruct the home’s lower levels – with plenty more activity on the horizon.

In contrast, another one of our major projects was recently completed at Cohuna Village, following months of substantial construction work which began early last year. Not only has the multi-million-dollar redevelopment project increased the home’s capacity to 50 beds following the construction of a new wing, but it included the development of an upgraded courtyard and garden space, in addition to a new hair salon and café for residents to enjoy.

Jith Jyothirmayan, General Manager at Cohuna Village, says the upgrade has helped to modernise the home’s facilities, created an even warmer aesthetic environment for staff and residents, and ensured the home’s strong culture of community support can continue for generations to come.

“The renovations have already been greeted with really positive feedback from our community – staff members, residents as well as their loved ones and visitors too,” Jith says. “It will be really great to see the impacts of these upgrades on our team and residents moving forward, but there have already been so many positive benefits.

“Not only are the newly developed spaces more modern and aesthetically pleasing, but they’re more functional too, and this will only further support staff to provide the highest quality of care and service for our residents.”

More updates are on the way!

With construction work ramping up across more of our communities in the second half of 2024, we look forward to sharing future updates with you
