We love sharing inspiring resident stories, and what a wonderful one we have here.

Emily Allan is one of our beloved residents at Peacehaven. Not only has she been part of our home in Norwood, Tasmania, for more than a decade, she is also its youngest resident and, thanks to her warm and generous nature, she’s always willing to support her fellow residents and build connections across the community. And recently, this willingness to support others and unite people together went to a fantastic, new level.

Emily decided she wanted to do something special to raise funds for MND Tasmania. A cause extremely close to her heart, she has herself lived with a neurological condition since the age of five. Emily was determined to bring people together to help others, and our Peacehaven community was only too happy to jump on board and help make it happen!

Late last month, Peacehaven proudly opened its doors to the local community, so everyone could show their support for Emily and put an exclamation mark on her month of dedicated fundraising for people living with motor neuron disease.

Staff, residents, family members, and supporters from around the community came out in droves to support Emily and her fundraising. And while everyone enjoyed a BBQ lunch, live music, and several raffles and auctions—all in the name of charity—there was one special activity that everyone was looking forward to the most.

The day’s main event saw Emily undertake a special wheelchair ride, attempting as many laps as possible around a special route constructed around Peacehaven and its grounds. It was a truly herculean effort! But most importantly, her wonderful feat (as well as all her hard work across several weeks of community fundraising) led to an amazing $2,886 being raised for MND Tasmania.

Always modest, after the event’s success and fantastic result, Emily said she was simply “happy to do whatever I can.”

Massive congratulations to Emily for everything she was able to achieve. Not only did her marathon efforts represent a fantastic personal achievement, but they engaged and connected the entire local community for a great cause. A big thank you also to everyone who supported Emily and her fundraising, including those who donated as well as residents and staff who pitched in, spread the word, and made the afternoon of festivities so memorable for all in attendance.
