Community Collaboration Promotes Careers in Aged Care

Local students from Ulverstone High School recently enjoyed a unique first-hand glimpse into what a future career in aged care might look like, thanks to a special collaboration between Respect, Coroneagh Park, and fellow not-for-profit organisation, The Beacon Foundation.

Students enjoyed the opportunity to tour our home in Penguin and hear directly from Coroneagh Park staff and members of our People and Culture team – to gain a better understanding about the range of roles that make up both an aged care home as well as a national provider, which all play a crucial part in supporting older people in the community.

Sara Donohue is a People and Culture Officer at Respect, and she had the pleasure of presenting to the visiting students about our organisation and the work we do impacting the lives of older Australians.

“The morning was a great example of a brilliant community connection looking to inspire young people about future career possibilities, including opening the door to local opportunities through on-the-ground, onsite experiences,” she says.

“I wanted to convey to students that Respect, like so many aged care providers, covers a wide range of roles. When we think about aged care, nursing often comes to mind, but it’s much more than that. The industry encompasses a variety of roles and positions, each playing a crucial part in supporting older people across the community.

“A career in aged care isn’t just about providing care; it’s about creating a supportive community for our residents, clients and their families. When you work in aged care, you are making a positive difference in the lives of others, as well as having a meaningful career.”

A big thank you to everyone involved, including residents and staff across our Coroneagh Park community for being so welcoming and accommodating to our visitors.

Through their community work, the Beacon Foundation is focused on supporting young people to have the aspiration, motivation and ability to determine their working future, and Respect is looking forward to potentially partnering with them on more opportunities like this in the future.
