The winter months certainly don’t put a damper on all the memorable activities and positive updates taking place across Respect – as you can see first-hand in the latest issue of our quarterly magazine.

Our recently released winter issue provides another collection of stories from across our aged care, home care and retirement living communities. From milestone events uniting our residents and staff, profiles of the unique people who help make our homes so special, and insights into Respect’s continued growth and our steadfast commitment to support older Australians to live happy and meaningful lives in communities of belonging.

We think you’ll agree there is a lot happening at Respect to be proud of!

For example, in this issue, you can read about our Tongala Memorial staff and residents uniting with the local community to celebrate a brand-new look for our beloved home, following recent renovations. The major works were also supported by the immense generosity of Neil and Mavis Grummitt, whose gift of $300,000 in 2022 continued the couple’s great philanthropic impact across regional Victoria. For more about our home’s wonderful updates, as well as the community spirit that helped drive its development, go to page 4.

We also share profiles of two of our much-loved residents, each of whom were recognised as part of our Anzac Day activities: Joyce Strawhorn and Ray Coates (pages 5-6). Both their personal stories of service characterise the profound connections so many of our residents and clients proudly share with the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps, and our Defence Force more broadly.

Intergenerational programs are growing in popularity across Australian aged care settings, so we also provide a detailed look into some of the memorable activities taking place across our communities. As you can read about on page 10, our residents continue to enjoy their time engaging with local students, and the many benefits are plain to be seen!

We also wanted to shine a spotlight on some of our wonderful nurses in this issue – in celebration of International Nurses Day! It’s been said that nursing is not just a job, but a profession that requires empathy, resilience, understanding and a deep sense of responsibility. And the efforts of all our Respect staff, providing ongoing compassionate care to our residents and clients do not go unnoticed – by the community as well as their colleagues across our organisation. You can read profiles of three of our wonderful team from page 16.
