RM Begg Residents Revel in New Community Partnership

Intergenerational programs continue to bring brightness to our aged care homes, fostering strong community partnerships while bridging the gap between age groups through beneficial local relationships. 

We know the benefits for our residents are immense. Research says vibrant and structured intergenerational programs help alleviate feelings of loneliness and isolation, which is often prevalent among older people. Other reported benefits include increased cognitive function, enhanced emotional wellbeing and self-esteem, and a heightened sense of purpose and belonging.

This was recently on show at RM Begg, with our Kyneton home thrilled to commence a brand-new partnership with SPICE Intergenerational Playgroup—and residents couldn’t be happier!

With a focus on promoting inclusion, engagement, and connection, the program unites local children, their families, and our RM Begg community so everyone together can share joyful experiences through music, crafts, stories, and free play activities. Every Monday morning, without fail, the shared spaces of RM Begg are now filled with the sound of little feet, giggles, and the gentle wisdom of older voices.

General Manager Amanda Gibson says the program has become a key, ongoing highlight in the home’s weekly social calendar. 

“Our residents look forward to the children’s visit each and every week,” Amanda says. “It’s such a lovely program… the energy is contagious, and the atmosphere is one of genuine care, curiosity, and connection. The amazing photos say it all. 

“Each session is so memorable… and it’s not just a valuable experience for our residents… all our staff love it too. It’s fantastic to be able to see all the smiles on the faces of our residents, the children as well as their parents. 

“We know how valuable programs like these are, for the wider community too, so we’re so happy to have partnered with SPICE and we’re excited for what this connection will continue to bring for the rest of the year and beyond.”
