Reed Estate Welcomes the Community With Open Arms

At Respect, building strong community connections and a sense of belonging go hand in hand with positive ageing.
Last year, when we opened Reed Estate – our flagship, independent retirement living village in Prospect Vale, Tasmania – we invited locals to join a vibrant and growing community built on inclusiveness and camaraderie. The response was immediately positive, with dozens of residents excited to find a new home in our village.
Since then, we’ve seen Reed Estate continue to evolve and offer even more units for sale to interested Launceston retirees. But perhaps the village’s brightest success story has been the tight-knit sense of community spirit that has blossomed among current residents.
Reed Estate Village Manager Jessica Ponting says such is the strength of these close bonds that it has led to increased awareness of the village and the services it provides local families.
“Our residents have been a real driving force behind the amazing culture that has developed at Reed Estate. It’s so heart-warming to see how they have bonded together, welcomed new residents, and really spread the word about Reed Estate within the wider community,” Jessica says.
“They’ve even forged further connections with social groups and support networks across the region, like the local Lions Club, to help support initiatives and activities, as well as to really embed our village in the local community.”
Recently, Reed Estate marked another key milestone in its continued development, once again opening its doors to welcome Launceston locals for a special open day. And, with more units available for sale and chances to join the Reed Estate family, current residents happily took centre stage to promote everything that was on offer.
“Our residents warmly welcomed all our visitors and went above and beyond to engage with everyone, offering a glimpse into village life and the sense of community they’ve shaped. Many sat with locals and shared a coffee… it was a fantastic day with so many lovely moments and highlights,” Jessica says.
Jessica reveals that the day was a resounding success, with more than 180 attendees from the wider community – several of whom moved quickly to arrange follow up appointments and confirm their interest in calling Reed Estate their new home.
“We’re so proud of what we’re building here, and the open day let us share that with the community in a really fun and positive way.
“It was a relaxed atmosphere, which people seemed to really enjoy. We had entertainment and coffee vans for our guests, and there were so many smiling faces around ready to have a chat and a cuppa… it really was a fantastic way to put Reed Estate ‘on show’ and give people a sense of what we’re about.”
The open day also provided Respect’s Home Care division with an opportunity to engage locals about the services provided through home care packages. Several team members were on-hand to greet guests and discuss why home care is changing the way older people living in the community receive the care services they need. A great opportunity to spread the word about the assistance on offer through home care generally, as well as Respect’s services, it continued the close collaboration between our retirement living and home care teams.
A big thank you to everyone involved in Reed Estate’s open day and those who made the event so successful, including Danni Butwell, Respect’s Retirement Village Manager in Northern Tasmania, who led organisation of the event, our home care team, as well as our wonderful and dedicated residents.
