Mitchell House Celebrates the Community through New Look

Mitchell House has proudly been supporting the Morwell community in Victoria since it opened its doors in 1986. And now, thanks to recent redevelopments driven by Respect, the home will continue to provide residents and the community with a modern environment of warmth, service, and care.
Last year, Mitchell House joined Respect, a not-for-profit aged care organisation that has been serving Australians through its high standard of care and community for more than 100 years.
As part of its merger, Respect committed to renovating several key shared and communal spaces, to ensure the home’s interior design matches the high level of care provided to its residents.
The renovations were completed in May. After several months of work, the facility has transformed into a modernised facility with its inviting décor, creating a warm environment and ensuring the home’s strong culture of community connection is maintained for generations to come.
The significant redevelopment included upgrading several key common areas, complete with new flooring, furniture, and modern artwork. Most notably, a history wall was also installed, featuring historic portraits of Morwell’s streets and familiar sites – further embedding the community’s presence within the home.
Steven Smith, General Manager at Mitchell House, said that all renovations have already been greeted with tremendously positive feedback from residents and their families, and has helped to foster a shared, communal spirit within the home.
“It has been fantastic to see the impact that the renovations have had on the Mitchell House community – among the residents as well as the staff too,” he says. “Not only have the works created a warmer, and more aesthetically pleasing environment, but the spaces are more functional too, and this will only further support staff to provide the highest quality of care and service for our residents.
“We’re all very excited to be able to share the updated look with the Morwell community too. Our staff take great pride in our proximity and cultural connection to town, and we’re so pleased to see this bond recognised through our history wall – which has already become a favourite feature amongst staff, residents, and visitors alike.
“For decades now, so many in Morwell’s senior community have called Mitchell House ‘home’, and we’re over the moon that these renovations will further allow us to continue this tradition for years to come.”
