Valentine's day at respect

Valentine’s Day proved a memorable day of celebration across Respect’s aged care communities, with several of our teams paying tribute to the wonderful couples, far and wide, who remain part of the fabric of our homes.

With a proud history of supporting older Australians for more than a century, we know how important family and loved ones are to wellbeing and quality of life. Recent research has even suggested positive and long-lasting relationships, experienced across life as well as into older age, can be as important to your health as nutrition and physical activity.

Strong relationships, between both loved ones and friends, provide companionship, support, emotional stability, as well as a sense of belonging. All these aspects can contribute to a longer, healthier and fulfilled life.

Just ask our residents! Every year on 14 February, our organisation looks forward to acknowledging each of the special couples who we are honoured to continue to call irreplaceable members of our Respect family.

Valentine's day at respect

Here are just a few of the lovely couples who our teams were honoured to celebrate this Valentine’s Day:

  • Terry and Glenis – who have been happily married for a memorable 62 years (Costa House in Lara, Victoria)
  • Faye and Bill – the couple has been sharing smiles and laughter for 71 years and are pleased to share their positive approach to life with our Eliza Purton community in West Ulverstone, Tasmania.
  • Margie and Graeme – who have shared a memorable marriage for nearly 57 years (Mt St Vincent in West Ulverstone, Tasmania)
  • Gladys and Reg – having recently celebrated their ‘golden’ wedding anniversary (50 years), the loving couple remain a special part of our Mt St Vincent community.
  • Cyril and Joan – local favourites amongst our Woodhaven team in Lockhart, New South Wales, the pair continue their love story, now in its eighth decade!
  • Cyril and Mary – couple’s memorable time together has now endured more than 55 years. Here’s to many more! (Cooinda in Lithgow, New South Wales).

Whether it is the bond between resident couples who have experienced decades together, or residents’ relationships with their visiting spouses that have stood the test of time, as well as newfound friends and growing connections, our team members are proud to play a part in each of their lives, as well as the future memories they are set to create and share together in our homes.

Valentine's Day at the Day Therapy Centre Launceston

Elsewhere at our Day Therapy Centre in Launceston, love filled the air as Valentine’s Day, affectionately known as Special Person’s Day, was celebrated with style. Clients were treated to a delightful high tea lunch, featuring live music, games, trivia, and plenty of fun!

The heartwarming event was a testament to the power of love and laughter. Our gratitude is extended to all who joined us for this special occasion.
