Joy Celebrates 100 Years

Joy has reached her 100th year with the same calm and steady approach that has guided her throughout her life. Born in Australia and raised in Ulverstone, Joy spent her early years working as a waitress before marrying and moving to a farm. She sewed, baked and cared for her family, and later became a stay‑at‑home mother to her daughters, Gail and Annette, who remain her closest supporters today. 

Service has been a major part of Joy’s life. She volunteered with Lifeline for 33 years, offering her time to people who needed someone to listen. She never looked for recognition and simply saw it as something worthwhile to do.

Joy has always enjoyed gardening, sewing, knitting and doing needlework. She also baked for a stall at the Penguin Market.  

Today Joy prefers a quiet pace. She enjoys word puzzles, reading the newspaper and listening to old‑time music. She does not watch much television but likes the occasional gameshow. She takes part in music therapy, craft groups and gardening activities at Mt St Vincent.  

Living at Mt St Vincent, Joy continues to follow her own rhythm. Her life has been shaped by steady commitment to her family, her community and the things she enjoys. Her 100 years reflect a quiet strength and a lifetime of showing up for others in simple and consistent ways.
