A Lifetime of Service – Jack Carroll OAM Honoured in Victorian Parliament

Costa House resident, Edward “Jack” Carroll OAM has lived a life dedicated to service. Service to his country, to his community, and to his fellow veterans.
Jack celebrates his 102nd birthday this September and was recently honoured with a Certificate of Appreciation from the Parliament of Victoria recognising his contributions during and after WWII. This recognition came after the recent acknowledgements for veterans on Vietnam Veterans Day, 18 August.
Born in Geelong, Jack enlisted in the Army at 18 and served as a truck driver with the Royal Australian Engineers. He spent five years in active duty in New Guinea, Bougainville and Singapore, where he helped repatriate Australian Prisoners of War, an experience that shaped his commitment to veteran welfare.
After the war, Jack became a dedicated member of the RSL and Masonic Lodge and received an OAM in 2003. He and his late wife, Florence, raised three children and today Jack enjoys life at Costa House surrounded by community and care
The Certificate of Appreciation was presented to Jack by the Hon. Natalie Suleyman MP and Ella George MP, with Jack’s son Ron, Lara RSL members, and local council members. Jack’s story is one of strength, compassion and enduring legacy.
