A festival of fun, food and wine at Alcheringa

To coincide with the local Swan Hill food and wine festival, Respect staff members at Alcheringa recently decided to host their own version of the community event, tailored especially for our residents.
The home’s shady wisteria and surrounding gardens provided the perfect backdrop for residents to enjoy a fine selection of local wines, Victorian beers and an abundance of delicious food, all set up and prepared by the home’s social care team and maintenance staff members.
To provide the entertainment, Victorian Singer-songwriter John Doyle travelled from Cohuna to perform for staff and residents throughout the morning, helping create a wonderful atmosphere for a memorable day (one that received glowing feedback and all involved would be keen to repeat next year).
Kaila Baber, Social Care Assistant at Alcheringa, says her team has been more focused on ‘bringing the community to our residents’ by incorporating a greater number and frequency of community events and local areas of focus into the home’s social calendar
“It’s definitely an event we want to keep on our social calendar each year moving forward,” she says. “Activities like this are great for socialising and reminiscing. Additionally, they don’t feel as structured as some of the other regular activities we run in our home… it proved to be a relaxing and enjoyable day for everyone across Alcheringa.”
