In 1922 Miss A. Barbara Barnett started one of the first ‘rest homes’ in Australia, with just 10 pounds and not enough blankets to go around the first night she opened the door to elderly people of Hobart. But through the generosity of the local community, St Ann’s has grown and evolved over the years to be one of the finest homes in the country.

It’s a similar story across our many homes — all built by the kindness and goodwill of the local community. Over the years various fundraisers, balls, donations and bequests have contributed to the infrastructure and services that we offer today.

Respect is a not-for-profit organisation with a proud history of caring for the aged in our communities for over a century. We owe a great deal of gratitude to the generosity of our supporters, patrons and friends who continue to support us. As a result of their donations, we can continue providing our residents and clients with the highest possible level of care and go above and beyond what’s expected.

Leave a Bequest

Leaving a bequest to a not-for-profit organisation like Respect is one of the most generous decisions you can make in your lifetime. It offers you the opportunity to keep supporting issues that you believe are important to the aged care community.

There are a variety of ways to leave a bequest in your Will to Respect. We recommend you consult a legal advisor, such as a solicitor, or utilise a digital Will service such as Willed to ensure your Will is valid according to the laws in your State or Territory (please refer to the section below for more details).

Every bequest creates a legacy that will help the aged care sector improve residential care and create long-term change in aged care residents’ lives and the lives of their family.

What families are saying

My mum lived there for 18 months, from 2012 until she passed away in January 2013, and she loved the place and called it home. She made friends not only the other residents but also the staff. Mum was cared for and looked after like a member of the family and also myself. Nothing was ever too much trouble for any of the staff there, RM Begg is a home-away-from-home, not just for my mum but also for me and I will always be forever grateful for the fantastic care and compassion that they gave to the both of us.

Volunteer with us

Volunteering with a not-for-profit organisation such as Respect Aged Care can be a very rewarding and enjoyable experience that allows you to make a very positive impact on your community.

By volunteering with one of our aged care homes, you’ll have the opportunity to:

Make a difference as a volunteer

Make a difference

Your time and engagement can help us achieve our goals and make a real difference in the lives of the residents we care for in our homes. Volunteering in our homes you can bring joy to the life of our residents who love seeing new people and engaging with them. Some residents get no visitors so reading, talking, going out into the garden are all ways we can contribute to their lives.

Meet like-minded people as a volunteer

Meet new people

Volunteering can be a great way to meet like-minded individuals who share your passion for making a difference in the world. Have fun: Volunteering doesn’t have to feel like work! Many of our volunteers find that their experience is enjoyable and fulfilling as they engage with the lives of our residents.

All new volunteers with Respect Aged Care will be provided with an induction and orientation to the organisation and position upon commencement.

Volunteer inductions will be conducted by the General Manager, administration or the Social Care Coordinator and will introduce volunteers to the work environment provided by Respect Aged Care and the requisite resources to perform their role.
