- Opened in March 1985 with just 16 residents, the Coates Hostel in St Arnaud was brought to life thanks to the dedicated work of their committee members, headed by Cr. R. McNally, Hospital Manager Shane Molloy, as well as local contributors and an enormous amount of community support.
- The hostel was initially named the H B & B Coates Elderly Persons Hostel to acknowledge the altruism and philanthropy provided to the home and its community. Additionally, its wings were unveiled as ‘Kara Kara’ and ‘Barastoc’ in honour of two influential donors and their enduring impact.
- The introduction of Coates Hostel fulfilled demand in the local community for a facility for the elderly in St Arnaud and was brought to reality thanks to the hard work and dedication of the committee.
- Respect took management of Coates Hostel in 2014 and is proud to continue the home’s exemplary history of care and support for residents and their families across the St Arnaud’s community.
- Today, Coates is committed to providing a safe and secure environment where residents are treated with dignity and respect by expert, caring staff. In addition, the home’s historical charm continues to be on show with residents enjoying several home comforts such as home-style meals, outdoor family BBQs, relaxation in the bath/spa, or a cup of tea with friends in one of the many communal areas.
