At Home, with Respect: Bill & Mary’s Story
Support at Home |
At Respect, we have the privilege of supporting older Australians who want to continue living in their homes as their needs change.
Today, we are celebrating Bill and Mary, whose story beautifully reflects how the right support can help couples stay connected to their home, and to each other.
Meet Bill & Mary
Bill and Mary have spent more than 20 years in the home they love. They’ve always lived an active life, often out walking side by side, and over the years they’ve built a daily rhythm that feels steady and meaningful to them.
After Mary underwent knee surgery, some everyday tasks became harder. Nothing dramatic, just the small practical things that keep a day moving. Making the bed, tidying or keeping things organised and household chores that suddenly required more energy and steadiness than before.
What mattered to them wasn’t changing their lifestyle. It was keeping life flowing in the same familiar way, with the right support to make that possible.
When Bill and Mary began receiving Support at Home through Respect, the goal wasn’t to take over. It was to fill the gaps and help them stay confident and independent in the place they know best.
In this short video, the couple shares how freely and generously the support is given, and how reassuring it feels to know help will come quickly when they need it.
Stories like Bill and Mary’s show the quiet resilience of older Australians and the difference person-centred, consistent support can make. They remind us that when care is respectful, dependable and grounded in compassion, home remains a place where people can continue living the life they love.
